Bring your own key (BYO)

Google gives every account a free Gemini API key. Plug it into WireLang™ and translate at no WireLang cost — your key, your quota, your control.

1

Open Google AI Studio

Go to aistudio.google.com and sign in with any Google account (a regular Gmail account works fine).

2

Create an API key

Click Get API key (key icon in the left sidebar), then Create API key. If it asks for a project, accept the default — Google creates one for you automatically.

3

Copy the key

The key looks like AIzaSy… (a long string of letters and numbers). Click the copy button next to it.

  • Treat it like a password — anyone who has it can use your quota.
  • You can delete it and create a new one at any time from the same page.
4

Paste it into WireLang™

Open the WireLang™ popup, sign in, paste the key into the Gemini API key field, and press Save key. Your plan badge switches to BYO and the field shows only the last few characters of your key from then on.

5

Translate

That's it. Sessions now run on your own key — the floating toolbox shows elapsed time instead of credits. You can remove the key whenever you like to switch back to WireLang credits.

🔐 How we protect your key: it is sent once over HTTPS, encrypted on our servers with AES-256-GCM, and never displayed or returned again — not even to you. WireLang™ exchanges it server-side for short-lived session tokens, so the raw key never travels to your browser during translation.

💸 Is it really free? Google's free tier has generous daily limits that cover typical study and viewing sessions. Heavy use may require enabling billing on your Google project — that relationship is between you and Google, with no markup from WireLang™.
